Another week, another Monday, and this time I'm sharing another band that I literally have been listening to non-stop for the past few weeks. Sadly I don't own their album yet, but thank goodness for myspace - it's been my go to for this band from my home province. Named for my favourite tragic character from Orwell's classic, Animal Farm, it's Boxer the Horse, hailing from Charlottetown, PEI.
I believe I stumbled upon their music initially via another PEI band that I am a huge fan of, Two Hours Traffic (and no, this isn't a PEI bias, there is just a lot of good music coming out of PEI lately, what can I say?). Citing The Kinks and The Modern Lovers as well as simply "Grampa" (not a band, just a person, I'm guessing. Possibly the concept of Grampa's in general, although you'd have to ask the band members that to be sure), Boxer the Horse is definitely quirky, but totally catchy at the same time.
When I found that Two Hours Traffic were co-producers of their recent album, I was intrigued, and was subsequently hooked completely by the song Sketch Me a Glove - which sadly I couldn't find a video for - you'll have to check it out at their myspace page. Unfortunately I haven't seen these fellows live in concert due to the fact that it's been such a while since I've spent any amount of time on my beloved Island, but I am really wishing that they'll bring their act to Ontario, where I am soon to be moving (excitement!). One can hope right?
What are you listening to lately?
