LGFW - Tuesday's Offerings

Since Joe Fresh was such a favourite as to get an entire post, I thought it only fair to continue with the LGFW roundups featuring thoughts on the other collections presented on Tuesday.

First up, Denis Gagnon.  I wasn't sure what to think of this collection. There were edgy, urban looks, tough leather jackets mixed with soft pleats which I liked. Also a lot of tulle, which normally is a big win with me but I wasn't sure here. Sarah Casselman gives a similarly mixed review here which I pretty much totally agreed with.

At every fashion week there has to be a bit of a "WTF" moment (think Chanel "Chewbacca"-esque outfits in Fall 2010 for example). Mr. Gagnon provided that at LGFW with these ... knits. I can't even imagine Miss Man Repeller herself working these into an outfit, they are just so... not wearable in any circumstance. This was a boo for me, my apologies Denis. There were other things I liked!

Next up, a very urban and gritty collection from ChloĆ© Comme Parris. The sisters, who design together, put together a strong showing for their second time out at LG Fashion week. While the items are not generally the type of thing I would personally turn to in my closet, there were definitely some pieces that I think will be big with editors and bloggers alike.  Some great accessories too and  - how great is that backpack?

Also, I will mention that I kindof  felt that it was a bit reminiscent of Alexander Wang's Fall 2010 show . Agree? Disagree?

Pink Tartan - this is a consistently popular line, namely, I think, because it is always pretty and stylish without being too trendy, you can count on classics from Ms. Newport-Mimran. Her look this time round was what she described as "couturitarian" and I felt like it worked. She made use of parachute-esque fabric for some pretty shirtdresses, and focused generally on neutrals - blacks, greys, khaki, injected with some shots of a pretty plum. I personally leaned towards the shirt dresses and full skirts.  Yet another successful collection from a Mimran on the Toronto runways.

I'll have one last roundup on the LG Fashion Week shows coming up later this weekend, so keep your eyes peeled. I would also love to hear your thoughts on your favourites, likes, dislikes, or what other shows you are looking forward to seeing (I personally can't wait to see what is coming up from Sarah Stevenson). Let me know in the comments or send me a note via Twitter!

I just can't get into neon, you know? I like a lot of the dresses (but good call on the knitwear, ugh) but the bright pink throws me off... and I LOVE bright colours! Just not quite neon...

interesting stuff! i like it when people try new stuff and don't stick to the same boring things. that said, most of the stuff probably isn't my style exactly, but it is refreshing to look at.

I feel that Denis Gagnon is more about the concept than how wearable the clothing is, I saw him at Montreal fashion week, his clothes were like "wow that's cool" but I'd never wear them! Awesome post about LG fashion week!
